We had a great time recording Episode 239 of Live Wire! Radio at the Alberta Rose Theater on February. We shared the stage with director Sherief Elkatsha, professional speaker and author Kevin Carroll, and The von Trapps (of course). It was a blast. Check out some of the photos from the night below (courtesy of Jennie Baker Photography) and listen to the full episode here.
We are excited to announce the debut of The Making of Dream a Little Dream, a short film on our collaboration with The von Trapps for our new album released on March 4, 2014. We had such a wonderful time creating the record that we wanted to share the stories behind the project with you! Watch below and hear the story of how Thomas first met Sofia, Melanie, Amanda, and August at the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony in Portland’s Pioneer Courthouse Square, what it was like recording the album, and what the future holds for the talented siblings.
Our good friends and Dream a Little Dream collaborators The von Trapps have a fantastic new website, and we can’t stop gushing over it. From the colorful European-style metropolis to the moonlit hot air balloon riders, this site beautifully encapsulates the whimsy and elegance of the von Trapps themselves. Go take a look at www.vontrapps.net.
Maria von Trapp, the last surviving member of the original Trapp Family Singers made famous in The Sound of Music, passed away last Tuesday at the age of 99. Maria was the great aunt of our good friends and musical collaborators Sofia, Melanie, Amanda, and August von Trapp. In an heartfelt interview with the Wall Street Journal’s Speakeasy blog, Sofi discusses her great aunt’s cheerful spirit, infectious laugh, and humanitarian and musical legacy. Here’s an excerpt from the piece:
“When the four of us were small Aunt Maria would come visit us in Montana always bringing her accordion. She would teach us Austrian folk songs and how to dance the Landler. In 2008 she translated over 40 Austrian children’s songs that she asked us to record for her children’s songbook.
Our great aunt Maria influenced everyone she met with such love, joy, and cheerfulness. We can speak for the many who will miss her dearly, especially her humor and her ‘Mitzi laugh’.”
