We had the distinct honor of performing at the U.S. naturalization ceremony at the Federal Courthouse in Portland last Thursday. We welcomed 56 new citizens to the U.S. the only way we know how – by singing in as many languages as possible during an acoustic performance right inside the courtroom! The new citizens came from 21 different countries: Guatemala, El Salvador, South Korea, Vietnam, Israel, Somalia, Ethiopia, China, Ukraine, the Philippines, Taiwan, Cambodia, Russia, Mexico, Chile, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Laos, Dominica, and Poland. Here are a few photos from that very special morning, courtesy of the talented Kevin McGee Photography. Read More...
We love Creative Growth Art Center in Oakland, CA. Thomas was introduced to the organization years ago and we’ve been big fans ever since. Here’s a note from him about the importance of the work Creative Growth does:
Read More...I think Creative Growth Art Center in Oakland, California is the most magical place in the United States. Paige Powell and Kim Hastreiter from Paper Magazine introduced me to Creative Growth 8 years ago.
For 40 years, Creative Growth has provided a place for people of all ages with developmental and physical disabilities to make art … from painting to sculpture to furniture making to pottery to latch hook rugs.
If you go to Creative Growth on any weekday from 10am to 3pm, there are 100 people hard at work, making art. Immediately, when a piece is sold, 50% goes to the artist, 50% goes to the center.
A couple of years ago, Creative Growth had its first fashion show. Here’s a New York Times video link which tells part of the story: http://www.nytimes.com/video/multimedia/100000001455232/beyond-trend-creative-growth-art-center.html
If you ever have a chance to visit Creative Growth, do it.
We had a wonderful time performing at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall this weekend with The Oregon Symphony, The von Trapps, Charmian Carr, and many more guests! The crowds were electric all three nights and we couldn’t have been luckier to perform with such amazing musicians. Here are a few behind-the-scenes photos from the weekend:
Did you get any good photos from our concerts this weekend? We’d love to see them! Tweet them to us @PinkMartiniBand or share them with us on our Facebook page. Read More...
We had a great time celebrating Pioneer Courthouse Square‘s 30th birthday yesterday with “Singin’ in the Square”! The event drew thousands of Portlanders to the Square to sing along with us and The von Trapps, members of the PHAME Academy, the Pacific Youth Choir, the Portland Gay Men’s Chorus, Portland Mayor Charlie Hales, and more. Here are a few photos and a quick video of the afternoon. Enjoy!
